This is Arabic first name meaning "joy, delight". Related names are Farhat "joys", Farih "happy, delighted", Farhan "glad delighted", all used for boys, and Farha "gladness, delight", Farhana "gladness, delight", Farhi "glad, happy", used for girls. Bishr is a boy's name which also means "joy". Farah is used for both sexes in the Arab world, but in the West is strongly associated with girls, first from the 1970s when the beautiful wife, Farah Dibah, of the Shah of Iran was much photographed, and secondly from American actress Farrah Fawcett.
