This is a Scottish surname which can mean either "son of Auley" or "son of Olaf" (see Oliver for both). It came into general use with the fame of the actor Macaulay Culkin, who became a star at the tender age of ten in 1990. It has been adopted as a girl's name, when it can appear as Macaulee.
