Mackenzie
Definition
Mackenzie is a Scottish surname, meaning "son of Kenneth". It is used for both sexes, but is now primarily a girl's name. It has been in use in the USA since the 1970s for girls and is currently fairly popular there. It is also found as Mckenzie and many other variants – one researcher has counted 45, and the shortening Kenzie is used as an independent name. Mackenzie has also spread to Australia, and both Mackenzie and Kenzie are well used in Scotland. The British actor Mackenzie Crook is an example of the masculine use, while the author J.K. Rowling has called her daughter Mackenzie.
