Wade
Definition
Wade was the name of an obscure character in Anglo-Saxon pagan legend, but modern use of this as a boy's name comes from the surname. Some bearers of the surname may in fact get it from the Anglo-Saxon name, but other Wades get their surname either from an ancestor who lived by a ford ("wade" in Middle English), or because they originally came from the Suffolk town called Wade. In Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind Scarlett calls her son Wade Hampton Hamilton after Wade Hampton III (1818–1902) Civil War soldier and Governor of South Carolina.
