Warren
Definition
Warren is a surname used as a first name. Unlike the majority of such names, which only came into use in the nineteenth century, it has been a first name since the seventeenth century. The surname has a number of different sources. There was a Germanic name Varin, meaning "to watch, guard", which the Normans brought over as Guerin and which became Warren in English; it can be from the French place name La Varenne (near Nantes), meaning "warren"; or it can be a name given to someone who lived near a warren or was a warren-keeper. In the USA it probably came into general use in honour of General Joseph Warren killed in the battle of Bunker Hill in 1775.
