Warwick
Definition
This is a surname and place name used as a first name. The town of Warwick, to judge by its meaning, was originally a suburb which grew up by a weir. Guy, Earl of Warwick, was a popular hero of medieval romance. There were also two real-life earls of Warwick in the fifteenth century whose lives could have come from the story-books – one a model of knightly courtesy and prowess, the other so influential in the Wars of the Roses that he has come down to us as Warwick the Kingmaker. The pub sign of the Bear and Ragged Staff is taken from the Warwick coat of arms. Warrie is used as a short form.
