Pregnancy insomnia
Insomnia during pregnancy is the inability to sleep at night, making you tired and irritable during the day.

Your baby lives on a 24-hour clock, and his metabolism keeps going even when you want to sleep. This can affect your body’s responses. Other causes of insomnia include night sweats and a desire to empty your bladder more often than usual, particularly during the third trimester.
- A warm bath and a hot milky drink at bedtime may help, as may a relaxing massage.
- Watch TV or read until you feel sleepy.
- Find a comfortable position, and try to stay cool.
Doctors very rarely prescribe sleeping pills in pregnancy because they can cross the placenta and affect the baby.
