Tender, painful breasts that feel heavy and uncomfortable, with a tingling sensation in the nipples, is often one of the first signs of pregnancy. Your breasts may feel tender throughout, but become more so towards term.
Hormones are getting your breasts ready for lactation. The milk ducts are growing and being stretched as they fill with milk.
Wear a good supportive bra from early in pregnancy. If your breasts are large, wear a bra at night as well. Wash your breasts gently once a day with a mild soap and pat dry. Put baby lotion or oil on your nipples if they're sore.
