Lovemaking positions for later pregnancy
There are two issues you’ll need to take into account to continue lovemaking during pregnancy – your sensitive breasts and your ever burgeoning bump. Read on for advice on how to enjoy a loving, and still relatively steamy relationship despite your new curves.

The trusted Missionary position can quickly become uncomfortable for a pregnant woman, unless the man is able to support his entire weight on his arms or forearms. This is important so that he doesn’t squash the woman’s breasts (sometimes just touching them can be painful), or bump, but can lead to lovemaking becoming more of a workout than a pleasure.
In any case, once your bump starts really showing, it’s best to avoid lovemaking with your man directly on top as this can put harmful pressure on the baby.
In the third trimester, some women even find lying on their backs very uncomfortable, so the best onto her side or onto all fours for lovemaking.
- An alternative is the Secret Offering position, where the woman lies on her side, knee bent up towards her chest, with the man moving in towards penetration. It’s a slight variation on the Missionary, but without the pressure on her body, and he is still doing most of the work!
- In the Spoons position, both partners lay on their sides, the man with his stomach to the woman’s back and the woman nestling back into him. Her heavy uterus doesn’t put pressure on her stomach and the man is free to fondle her. This position is more gentle and perfect for the later stages of pregnancy.
- And of course there is the Doggy position, where the woman moves into an all fours position with her partner penetrating from behind. This position allows good penetration and the couple can get really fired up without any risk to that precious bump.
Overall, there’s no doubt that pregnancy does affect a woman’s physical mobility in the lovemaking department. But it would be a shame not to experiment and find positions that work for you both. That being said, positions with the pregnant woman on top are not advisable as penetration tends to be rather deep, thus risking pressure on the cervix, which needs not to be bothered in its job of keeping baby safely inside!
Sexual pleasure, and even orgasm, is beneficial for a woman’s physical and mental wellbeing, and thus by extension for her overall pregnancy wellbeing, so don’t hesitate to stay sexually active and enjoying every minute of it!
